I'm sure many people write off indoor football as semi pro, not the "real thing" or are just plain bored by it. I know before I actually sat down to watch my first indoor game I figured it was just a gimmick.
And then it happened...I fell in love.
I fell in love with the pace of the game, the event surrounding the game, and of course the players. And I don't mean I fell in love with the players in a way a non heterosexual male falls for another non heterosexual male...I mean I fell in love with the story.
Many players in indoor football (please note the difference between indoor and arena football...arena is very much professional) work at the local pharmacy, teach school, are lawyers, and sales people. These guys are everyday Joes just living the dream. They may make up to $300 a game. You heard that right folks...up to $300 a game. And in many cases players get paid next to nothing or less.
Some of these players pay to play. But they give 125% every night they are on that field. Some move up to the AFL, CFL, and even the NFL. But most play for the love of the game. And really folks...isn't that sort of refreshing?
No big time attitudes, no contract hold outs, just good old fashioned football. The hits are harder, the action is faster, and yes it's half the field. But for me...it's twice the fun.
So if you have never been to a game I invite you to check one out in your area. If you're ever in the Council Bluffs, IA/Omaha, NE area let me know. I'll be happy to give you my spare ticket.
